Series Part No: 1
It doesn’t take much. Just a spark. A spark throws off light and can ignite combustible materials into a roaring blaze. A spark can spread light to others and provide warmth in a cold environment. Jesus came into the world as a spark that ignited life change—a chance for people to get right with God, to move from darkness to light. Jesus came for the whole world. And that includes you!

For further thought and discussion:
- Take time to recall your favorite Christmas memories. Do you have any special traditions? What do you enjoy most about the Christmas season?
- Remember Joe’s question: “How many of you have had a spark blow into your life?” What destructive or painful spark burst into a flame in your life and created loss?
- Read Genesis 3:15. What is the context of this chapter? How would this verse eventually be fulfilled?
- Describe the angelic encounter experienced by the shepherds (Luke 2:8-20). Put yourself in their place and describe the emotions they might have been feeling. What did they do after this encounter? In light of this account, what’s a simple, practical application for you?
- What was the experience of the Magi who came to visit Jesus (Matthew 2:1-12)? What do you notice about their trust in God?
- Christmas is really all about the gift of Jesus and His offer of salvation to all. What is required to receive this free gift of salvation? Read Ephesians 2:8-9.
- Read John 3:19. What do you notice about the light that Jesus describes? How can you shine His light into a world shrouded in darkness? (Matthew 5:14-16)
