For further thought and discussion:

  1. What are some common misperceptions about God and how He works? What things would most surprise people about what God is really like? What do you wish your friends and family members could understand about God?
  2. The book of Deuteronomy describes some ground rules for God’s arrangement with the Israelites. Read Deut. 28:1–2, 15. What did God mean by blessings and cursings? What distinction can you draw between an Israelite and a Christian? Do the blessings and cursings of Deuteronomy 28-30 apply to everyone? To the Christian?
  3. God changed the rules about the law. Read Hebrews 7:18–19, 8:13. In what sense was the law temporary? Why was it put aside? What is the new alternative to the law (Rom. 6:14–15)?
  4. Does God promise you success? What does it mean to be successful? Read 2 Corinthians 4:7–11. In what sense was Paul successful?
  5. It makes perfect sense to acknowledge that you were made to enjoy God. What does that mean? What do you believe are God’s greatest desires for you? When are you most at peace with God?
